Once you have got both of them the process becomes easy.

Instead use a plastic wall plug if you can find a size that will work for you or get a stripped screw hole repair kit that specifically states it will work with metal.
I have not tried it in sheetmetal but it might just work.
All it requires is the correct measurement of the screw hole that you are dealing with and a good quality tap handle.

If you are trying to repair a stripped screw hole in a piece of metal then quite logically avoid using wood if possible.
The stripped screw hole problem was routine for a job i was doing.
Then pound all around the hole with the hammer working the metal towards the center of the hole.
Back up the offending hole with a block of steel because i couldn t get any other tool to fit.

If this is not possible you can try an epoxy in the hole to help grab the screw.
I use solid copper wire to take up the gap in stripped holes in the fiberglass.
If the op has a minor ocd issue with mismatched screws this solution will not correct that aspect.
Lastly using an anchor may be an option either plastic or a soft metal like lead that will conform to the hole.
The metal does thin out however carefully tightening of the screw upon re assembly.
The original screw is a sheet metal screw while rivnuts are designed for machine screw threads.
The copper is soft enough for the threads of a screw to cut into and take hold.
On the flip side one could drill out the other holes and place rivnuts in those locations providing matches if desired.
